An Audiobook Review by Jackie Houchin
The Christmas Blessing is another feel-good Christmas story by excellent writer, Melody Carlson. There is a sad beginning, a time of desperation, struggle, and loss when it feels like there’s no hope, and then a wonderful last-minute reprieve.
This writer surely knows how to write heart-twisting tales.
It’s 1944, and Amelia, unwed and with a 2-month-old baby travels to the town where her “almost husband” grew up. He had no time to marry his beloved gal before being shipped out. Then his plane was shot down over the Pacific Ocean. Amelia has no family to speak of, no job, no money, and nowhere to go. Would James’ wealthy parents believe her or think she was a crafty gold digger?
And then both she and her sweet baby boy, Jimmy, get deathly ill. What is she to do? You are kept on the edge of your seat as bad goes to worse, and Amelia must make a horribly desperate decision!
Of course, it is Christmas, and it MUST turn out well, right? I enjoyed this audiobook even as I shed a few tears. And the narrator was good too.
