Here is the 2024 April Poem-A-Day Challenge. For today’s prompt, write a memory poem. It could be an actual memory from your childhood, last week, or earlier this morning. Or the memory could be made up. Or the memory is just a starting point for a completely different poem.
Back When...
Back when I was a little girl,
I would stand on the seats of rocking horses
and twirl.
Back when I was in school,
I had to put the gum I was chewing on my nose!
How cruel!
Back when I was in Junior High
I dreamed I forgot my locker combination.
I thought I'd die.
Back when I was seventeen,
I got engaged and wore a diamond ring.
Wow, did it gleam.
Back when I was twenty-one
I got pregnant, threw up, and grew enormous,
Then had my son.
Back when I was thirty
I owned and ran a horse boarding stable.
I got dirty!
Back when I was forty-eight
My glorious days of grandparenting began.
Three, to date.
Back when I was sixty-seven
I started going on teams to Africa
Heaven!
Now that I am seventy-eight
I have memories, mostly accurate, and
mostly great.
Oh, I adore this one! Lovely, lovely poem.
