A Children’s Audio Book Review by Jackie Houchin
I loved this fairy tale BOOK OF DRAGONS which is beautifully read by Lynn Bradford. If you are looking for a whimsical, gentle, collection of stories that include adventure, heroism, love, kindness, truths, and happy endings to read (or listen) to with your little ones, this is it.
There are dragons of different sizes, colors, personalities, and fierceness. Some are fearful of fire; others are defeated by cold. Some are ginormous while others are the size of a speck of dust. They all are annoying and/or scary to the residents of small English towns.
But never fear, either a clever boy, a young princess, or even a disobedient young king, will figure out a way to disarm them or make them disappear.
There are eight aptly named stories, like “Uncle James and the Purple Stranger, The Island of Nine Whirlpools, The Ice Dragon (Or Do as You Are Told), and The Book of Beasts, in which a forbidden book holds all sorts of good and bad creatures that come alive.
The narrator reads these in a perfect storytelling voice with the author’s sweet or warning “asides” to the young readers (listeners).
Oh, do get this book for your children (or read it yourself, like I did). You will be smiling or chuckling for the day.
