by Tim Challies (Author)
A REVIEW
PILGRIM PRAYERS by Tim Challies is a real winner for my evening devotions (good in the morning too if you prefer). The readings are short, but jam-packed with goodness and meaningful thoughts to go to sleep on.
There are 51 prayers, plus an Introduction, a short direction on Reading and Understanding Poetry, and a How to Use this Book page.
After the title in each chapter, which gives the topic of the poem and the author’s name, each chapter is divided into four brief sections.
- OBSERVE tells you what to look for in the poem: key words, definitions of some words, rhythms, repetitions, etc.
- PRAY is where you actually see the poem. What a good way to read it: by praying it.
- In the REFLECT section, there are usually two Bible references you can look up that relate to the subject.
- The APPLY section includes a few thought questions for you to reflect on or pray about.
Seriously, PILGRIM PRAYERS has it all in very short, enjoyable chapters. A small book I plan to read again and again.
