BOOK REVIEW – Antiques, Codes & Conundrums (The Evelyn Chambers Senior Spy Series Book 1)

by Renee Pawlish (Author)

Antiques, Codes & Conundrums by Renee Pawlish is a fun, cozy mystery featuring a nice, but determined, senior widow who just happens to live near Langley, Virginia.

In this first in the series, Evelyn Chambers recognizes a man her husband once knew in the cafe where she and a friend are dining.  She listens carefully to his conversation with a shady character, then follows up with a visit to his Antiques Store.

She remembers her husband visited that store just before he mysteriously died.  Was there a connection?  The CIA would never tell her how her husband died, and now she wants to know!  She calls a long-kept number for Agent Torres… and the fun begins.

Yes, before she knows it, Evelyn is undercover in Paris, following the very same man. But things get complicated, as they do, and she gets into a fine and dangerous mess.

This book (series) reminds me a lot of the old Mrs Polifax books.  Evelyn seems a bit sweeter, but equally daring.  And looking at books two and three, the places she “visits” seem just as exotic.

And, ever the cozy (didn’t I say that at first?), there are cats and a kitten involved, and a “maybe” light romance developing.

All around light, fun reading.
