An Audiobook
BOOK SCAVENGER. It’s a fun game in cities all over the country. It’s the newly arrived in San Francisco, Emily, and her new friend, James. And it’s also a dangerous person who will not even stop at murder to get … THAT … book!
Emily’s family moves often. Her parents can work “anywhere,” and so their family goal is to live in each of the 50 states. It’s “kind of” fun – new, interesting places to see. However, attending so many new schools and not having any lasting friends … not so much.
But now Emily is in San Francisco, the Home City of Book Scavenger, and she’s just made a new friend in the apartment upstairs. James seems eager to join Emily in her passion – finding and hiding books in the city – for points and a prize.
But, just when a new, fantastic Scavenger game is about to be announced, the creator, Garrison Griswold, is attacked (shot) and in a hospital in a coma.
Then …. Emily and James find a new, very unusual book behind a trash can in a subway station. No, it’s not listed as “hidden” on the website, and it doesn’t have the usual Book Scavenger sticker inside. But Emily believes it’s a part of the new game to be announced, and she and James look for clues in it. It’s an unknown book by Edgar Allen Poe!
So many puzzles to solve, so many hindrances (school for one!) And someone is chasing the kids. Their school teacher is also a little suspicious. And then they discover the code inside the book, just before someone takes it!!
Jennifer Chambliss Bertman has written a very entertaining and suspenseful book. Kids who love danger, puzzles, clues, and mysteries will love this book. Will Mr. Griswold recover? What is that super-prize? Is the kids’ teacher one of the bad guys? And, oh, will Emily’s family stay long enough in San Francisco to find the answers???
Read BOOK SCAVENGER and find out.
(The narration on this audio book is done very well.)
