An Audiobook Review
I love Benedict Brown‘s Lord Edgington Investigates books, and have read (listened to) all of them to date. They are whodunnits, investigated by the 75-year-old, eccentric Marques of Edgington and his 18-year-old grandson. So fun!
THE SNOWS OF WESTON MOOR (book 8) didn’t disappoint. There is an Agatha Christie-like “And Then There Were None” aspect to it. A group of thespian misfits is locked in a mansion in a blizzard, and one by one is getting bumped off.
Of course, Lord Edgington and Christopher, with their car abandoned in a snow drift, ‘just so happen’ on the scene and solve the crimes in good order. Oh, but not before Chrissy (once again) is smitten by a pretty young thing. (Will he ever get his longed-for “first kiss?”) Also… by a kind of fluke at the beginning, they are there incognito. Lord Edgington is Lord Ow! And Chrissy is, well, you have to read the book! It does get sorted out at the end.
And then, maybe just as entertaining as the mystery novel, is Brown’s “Author Notes” at the end of his books, with the “Hows and Wheres and Whys that go into his research. Totally worth reading!!
George Blagden is an excellent narrator, distinguishing Lord E’s and Chrissy’s voices perfectly (as well as other characters, including the girls). Even when the group is singing, he is voicing their several voices – the magic of a recording studio!
Quick, tell me the next one in the series!! — (What the Vicar Saw: A 1920s Mystery (Lord Edgington Investigates…, Book 9, publish date: March 18, 2024) I gotta order it!
