BOOK REVIEW – A Body at a Boarding School, A 1920s Mystery (Lord Edgington Investigates…, Book 2)

by Benedict Brown (Author), George Blagden (Narrator), Heathdene Books (Publisher)

An audiobook review

A BODY AT A BOARDING SCHOOL, is another wonderful installment in the Lord Edgington (and Christopher) Investigations. This time the story is set at Christopher’s boarding school on the last day before summer break. Again the poor boy is being bullied, but that’s nothing compared to the beating the school’s Headmaster has in store for him!

“Chrissy” stumbles upon the unusual murder while on a “mission” for a friend, and escaping from a pair of bullies. He quickly becomes involved in the investigations when his grandfather, Lord Edgington, takes over. They do a lot of fact checking and interviewing before the bungling police Inspector Blunt arrives at the scene. Blunt was under Lord Edgington while the gentleman was on the police force in the past, and there is a bit of rivalry. However in THIS mystery, there seems to be a bit of joint cooperation.

This case is very complicated as the mysteries written by Benedict Brown are, but what fun trying to untangle them before the boy assistant and the senior gentleman do. Not a chance in my succeeding. I never came close. And there is a whole lot of other, nasty, things going on at this school.  Oh, my!

The author’s notes at the end of these books is very interesting as well, as he tells how and why he wrote aspects of that particular book. A nice addition.

I totally enjoy these youth/senior mysteries and have lined up a few more ready to listen to. The narrator, George Blagden, is jolly good too!

PS: I forgot to say, especially for dog lovers, that there is a lovely Golden Retriever, Delilah, in the series. She has personality, but, alas, doesn’t do much to solve murders.
