An Audiobook review by Jackie Houchin
I loved the story of Pip (Epiphany) Bloom, an out of work, super fan of celebs, with a record of failed romances and employment, who (in this first book) is mistaken for a private investigator. It’s scarey and possibly illegal of course, but she needs the money for rent, so she runs with it. She, and we, discover that she actually has a knack for investigating. Of course she has help from her handsome housemate-landlord, her air-head, but very successful blogger sister, and the manly, muscular and tattooed, very appealing workout coach. It’s a missing persons case and the young man is the son of a wildly popular American actress and her kind of wimpy husband. After a blazing argument with them, Matty went off and no one has seen or heard from him in weeks. Pip disguises herself, first as the investigator and then as her own sister to get access to a very suspicious, and armed guarded retreat/farm. She is in way over her head, but in the final scenes she is amazing! Wow! We knew she had it in her!
An endearing story of a brave-foolish and funny young woman, with a touch of seriousness added by a few environmental concerns. It’s a rollick of a story. You just want to go along with her madness and perseverence. Once started I couldn’t stop reading this book. Oh, and she has a three-legged cat, whose backstory and… forwardstory, add “class” or is it “humor” to the story.
An excellent narrator too!
4 1/2 stars.
