BOOK REVIEW – Peg and Rose Solve a Murder

By Laurien Berenson (Author), Margaret Strom (Narrator), Tantor Audio (Publisher)

An Audiobook Review by Jackie Houchin

“Like a tomato and a baseball bat” is how someone describes sisters-in-law Peg and Rose, two elderly characters in the new Melanie Travis spin-off series, by Laurien Berenson.

Sparks fly when hard-hitting, poodle-loving Peg and soft-spoken, ex-nun Rose first get together to join a bridge club at a senior center. But as they begin to delve into solving a murder mystery (in their own unique ways) they seem to grow closer. Poodles of various sizes play a role in the story as well, as the ladies question (interrogate?) the remaining bridge players. Things get dicey when bullets begin to fly! Oh my.

The story has a tight plot, a little suspense, a few laughs, and a couple heart-warming scenes. I enjoyed getting to know the two slueths and only discovered the killer a page or two before Peg and Rose. I’m looking forward to another book in the series.

Four Stars
